American Discomfort

Does Anyone Know….Or Care?

It doesn’t seem like there’s much agreement about exactly what’s going on today in America. If you listen to the MSM (Main Stream Media), you’d think that it’s really no big deal. Well folks, we’re not heading for a recession, we’re in one.  You see, the definition of “Recession in America” is a little bit different than how the rest of the world defines it. In the United States the official designation of recessions is done by the business-cycle dating committee of the National Bureau of Economic Research.

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is a “private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization” dedicated to studying the science and empirics of economics, especially the American economy. It is “committed to undertaking and disseminating unbiased economic research among public policymakers, business professionals, and the academic community.” It publishes NBER Working Papers and books. The NBER is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts with branch offices in Palo Alto, California, and New York City.

I’m sure that most of the folks on this commitee drive better cars, and live in nicer homes, than most of us.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that things just are not very “rosy” in the good old USA, or the world for that matter. Our “elected” politicians keep up their determination of pushing “our way or the highway” on the rest of the world. The only reason anybody has anything to do with “Peace Talks” is so that they can get the U.S. to send them money. We’ll even borrow money from our former enemies to fund our promises of aid if we can’t print enough of our own. It just seems crazy.

The bottom line is that “Big Money” owns just about everything that we see, hear and feel every day. They really don’t care much about the millions of Americans that are finding that they can’t gain any ground. It doesn’t affect them. They’ve been working on this ever since the TV became the babysitter and “Mom” had to get a job to make ends meet.

All you have to do is look around. Look at the cost of goods. Look at the cost of insurance. Do some simple math. The common man is just not able to keep up anymore….

And “they” really don’t care.

The Old Man is just like everyone else.

  1. You make a good point. It just seems like things are going to remain the same for quite some time. I only hope we as Americans can survive.
